WHY I CHOSE TO PRACTISE AESTHETICS DIFFERENTLY

Good aesthetic care starts with trust and good judgement

When I moved into aesthetic medicine, I did not want to create a clinic where patients simply choose a treatment from a menu.

Good care begins with understanding what concerns you, assessing your face carefully and deciding whether treatment is likely to help.

Aesthetics is not about changing who you are – it’s about working with your features, not against them.

My aim is to work with your features, not change them. You see me for your consultation, assessment and treatment, and I remain available afterwards.

Sometimes the right plan is treatment. In other cases, it may be a different treatment, less treatment or none at all. Being able to say that honestly is an important part of looking after you properly.

MY JOURNEY INTO AESTHETIC MEDICINE

My medical background
– and why it still shapes how I treat

Surgery taught me to respect anatomy

My approach to aesthetic medicine draws on more than 20 years of medical practice. I trained at St George’s Medical School before beginning my early career in surgery. I later completed the postgraduate examinations that led to Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons.

Surgical training taught me to think about anatomy in layers and to understand how different structures influence one another. When I assess a face, I am looking beyond a single line or wrinkle and considering skin, fat, muscle, bone, movement and how those elements work together.

That foundation still shapes the way I assess people and make treatment decisions today.

Understanding how the face changes over time guides thoughtful treatment.

A good consultation begins with listening and understanding what matters.

General Practice taught me how to listen

I later retrained as a GP and gained my MRCGP. I currently work as a General Practitioner at Kingston Hospital.

General Practice taught me to look beyond the first concern someone mentions: to listen carefully, take a thorough medical history and understand the person as a whole.

That way of thinking remains central to my aesthetic work. Someone may arrive with a particular treatment in mind, but my first job is to understand what has changed, what is bothering them and what they hope to achieve.

Only then do I consider whether treatment is likely to help and which options, if any, are genuinely worth discussing.

Aesthetic medicine taught me the importance of judgement

I went on to complete a Level 7 qualification in Facial Aesthetic Injectable Treatments and began practising aesthetic medicine in 2018.

Since then, I have learned that being able to perform a treatment is only one part of good aesthetic care. The more important question is whether it is appropriate for the person sitting in front of me.

A treatment may be technically possible without being necessary or worthwhile. Recognising that distinction is central to safe, responsible aesthetic practice.

Good judgement is knowing when to treat,
how much to do and when to leave well alone.

Good planning means knowing what will help, how much is appropriate and when restraint is best.

HOW I APPROACH TREATMENT

Natural-looking results,
tailored to you

You do not need to know which treatment you need before you come to see me.

I start by understanding what has changed, what concerns you and what you would realistically like to improve. I then assess your skin, facial structure and movement before explaining the options that may be appropriate — including when I think a different approach, less treatment or no treatment at all would be better.

Areas I commonly help with

Lines & expression wrinkles

Forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet. I look at how your face moves, where the lines appear and what you would realistically like to change.

Loss of facial volume

Changes in the cheeks, lower face or facial balance that can develop with age. I consider the face as a whole rather than simply filling individual lines.

Skin quality & hydration

Dryness, crepey texture, loss of elasticity or skin that looks and feels less fresh. We can discuss options aimed at improving skin quality rather than changing facial shape.

Facial structure & support

Age-related changes in firmness, support and facial definition. I assess where structural change has occurred and whether treatment is likely to make a worthwhile difference.

Under-eye & regenerative skin concerns

Fine lines, crepey skin and changes in skin quality, particularly around delicate areas such as the eyes. Treatment depends on what is actually causing the concern.

Not sure what would suit you?

That is completely fine. You do not need to arrive knowing which treatment you want. We can start with what you have noticed, what concerns you and what you hope might improve.

Let’s create a plan that’s right for you

During your free consultation, we’ll discuss your concerns, assess your skin and recommend the most effective options for natural, long-lasting results.

Natural-looking results are always my aim. I focus on enhancing your features rather than changing the way you look. Every treatment is planned around your face, your goals and what feels right for you.

Your consultation is a chance to discuss your concerns, ask questions and explore your options. I will assess your skin, facial structure and goals before recommending any treatment.

Many patients come in knowing what they think they need, but the best option is not always the one they expected. My role is to understand your concerns and recommend the approach I believe will give the most suitable result.

Most treatments are very well tolerated. I always take time to explain what to expect and use techniques designed to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

Results vary depending on the treatment, the area treated and individual factors. During your consultation, I will explain what you can realistically expect and how we can maintain your results.

No. A consultation is simply a conversation. There is no pressure to proceed. The aim is for you to feel informed, comfortable and confident in your decision.
