— Rejuvenated Looks
Wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process. As we get older, our skin becomes thinner, drier and less elastic, which means it is less able to protect itself from damage and the skin loses its ability to spring back.
The range of facial expressions we repeatedly make when we smile, talk, squint or are upset, will over time lead to the development of fine lines. As we age, the lines progress, they get deeper and eventually develop into wrinkles. We are all unique and start to see these changes at different ages and to different extents.
What is Botox and anti-wrinkle injections?
Lines and wrinkles are a natural and unstoppable part of the ageing process. While they are inevitable, they can be eliminated, softened and we can delay their onset.
Anti-wrinkle injections provide an effortless, secure way to reduce the visibility of fine lines and deep wrinkles on the face. By calming the facial muscles, these injections can help reduce the appearance of lines on the forehead, frown and around the eyes. The outcome is a softer, younger and more revived look.
This treatment works by relaxing facial muscles, helping to eliminate and soften existing wrinkles as well as delay the onset of new ones.
It is the most powerful and widely used tool in aesthetic medicine. This treatment delivers a natural, fresher, rejuvenated look, to subtly pause the signs of ageing.

Botox Procedure
In Wimbledon clinic, the consultation and Botox treatment session spans approximately 45 minutes.
After a thorough discussion about the procedure and completing the consent forms, I will take a pre-procedure photograph.
Anti-wrinkle injections do not require general anaesthetic or stitches and leave no scars. There is little to no downtime.
During the procedure, the muscles around the areas of concern will be treated using an extremely fine, short needle.
The treatment effects vary between individuals but usually take between 5 -14 days to materialise. Expect the effects to last from 3-6 months.
Afterwards, the treated area may have some slight redness and swelling, which normally resolves within an hour or two. You will be given full verbal and written aftercare instructions and a complimentary 2-week follow-up appointment.
Anti-wrinkle injections are minimally invasive cosmetic procedures that help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Botox Aftercare
Immediately following your Botox treatment, you may experience some redness, swelling or mild discomfort. This is fairly minimal and should resolve within 30 minutes.
Rather than being painful, most people describe the procedure as a little uncomfortable. Some factors may make it feel more painful such as stress or hormonal fluctuations.
The use of an ice pack prior to injection can make treatment more comfortable. Please ask if you would like this to be considered before your treatment.
After the anti-wrinkle treatment, it is best to avoid:
- For the first 4 hours after the treatment: avoid lying down, try to exercise the targeted muscles with gentle facial expressions, avoid touching or rubbing the injected area.
- After 4 hours you can apply makeup, but take care not to apply too much pressure.
- Avoid exercise for 24hrs after treatment.
- Avoid alcohol for 24hrs after treatment.
- Avoid cosmetic products containing Retinoids for 3 days either side of the procedure.
You may like to try arnica cream. It is commonly used to reduce bruising, swelling, inflammation and pain.

All my Botox injection patients are offered a review appointment 2 weeks after treatment. We’ll examine the treated area and discuss the final results, including whether you might need any adjustments.

Botox & Anti-Wrinkle Injections FAQ's
You will find here all the answers to the most nurturing questions about the anti-wrinke injection treatments
What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections are an easy, safe and effective way to reduce the appearance of fine lines and deep wrinkles on the face.
They work by relaxing facial muscles that create lines and wrinkles, such as worry lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines, making them less visible.
The end result is a smoother, younger, and more refreshed look. Anti-wrinkle injections contain Botulinum Toxin A, a purified protein created in a lab. This protein temporarily blocks nerve signals to the muscles it is injected in and relaxes them, leading to fewer and softer wrinkles.
Most people are familiar with Botox® – which is one of three main brands of botulinum toxin type A.
It is safe and is used in the NHS to treat various medical conditions.
To find out more about anti-wrinkle injections, I invite you to read my article – The Science Behind Anti-Wrinkle Injections: How They Work to Combat Ageing.
What is Botox®?
Botulinum Toxin A is a purified protein used in cosmetics to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
It works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles and lines, resulting in smoother, younger-looking skin.
Botox can also be used to treat medical conditions such as migraines, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms.
What are the benefits of Botox®?
Botox is an excellent treatment for fine lines and wrinkles that are associated with movement (dynamic lines). They may help with deeper, more set lines (static wrinkles), but more than one botox treatment may be required. Other treatments, such as dermal fillers, may be more appropriate.
Botox can delay wrinkle formation if started before fixed wrinkles are established. However, there is a careful balance when deciding to treat younger patients. Premature treatment can make someone look older rather than the more youthful look desired.
Whether or not treatment is required or appropriate is always decided on an individual patient basis.
Masseter Botox can also provide relief for TMJ and teeth grinding.
Do anti-wrinkle injections really work?
Yes definitely! Anti-wrinkle injections can be effective in reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
The injections are used to temporarily relax the facial muscles, which can lead to a smoother-looking complexion.
However, the results can vary depending on the type of wrinkle and the individual.
Please get in touch if you would like to have a personal consultation.
How long does Botox® take to work?
The effects can start to appear from 5-7 days, and take up to 2 weeks to see full results.
How long do Botox® injections last?
Your anti-wrinkle injections should keep those pesky wrinkles away for about 3 months.
After that, you’ll probably notice your facial muscles gradually becoming more active again and the wrinkles reappearing.
The effects of the treatment usually take between 5-14 days to become visible and can last between 3 and 6 months.
To maintain your desired results, repeat treatments are usually needed.
What is the best age for Botox®?
It really depends on the person and their particular skin type.
Generally, anti-wrinkle injections are most effective in people who are 25 and up and are starting to see lines and wrinkles.
Around the age of 25, men and women may start to see some of the early signs of ageing, and Botox injections can be helpful in keeping those signs at bay.
Are there any risks from Botox® ?
Are there any side-effects from the Botox® treatment?
With anti wrinkle injections, the risks are very minimal. However, like any medical or cosmetic treatment, there is a chance that something could go wrong.
Some people find the injection causes some mild discomfort and local swelling. This mostly subsides after 30 minutes.
Bruising around the injection sites can happen on occasion, but these should be minimal, resolve within a week and coverable with makeup. Taking arnica tablets for 2 days either side of your treatment may help minimise this.
Some people describe a mild headache or flu-like symptoms, which are related to having injections into the facial muscles and usually resolve after 24-48 hours. It’s just important to know you are not having a bad reaction. Paracetamol will help, but avoid ibuprofen or aspirin since they can increase bruising.
If Botox migrates to unwanted sites, it can cause weakness and drooping of the eyebrow or eyelid or facial asymmetry. This is very rare.
Who should avoid having Botox®?
- Pregnant women or breast feeding mothers.
- Patients with certain conditions affecting the connections between nerves and muscles (such as Myasthenia Gravis and Eaton-Lambert Syndrome).
- Patients with certain bleeding disorders or taking blood-thinning medication such as Warfarin and Clopidogrel.
- People with a previous allergic reaction to botulinum toxin or with allergies to egg or human albumin.
- People taking aminoglycoside antibiotics (such as gentamicin).
- If you are suffering from any skin infection in or near the treatment area.
- Those who have had or plan to have chemical peels, laser or IPL 2 weeks either side of their treatment.
Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?
No, anti-wrinkle injections are not painful. Most people feel a slight pinch during the injection, but the discomfort is very minimal.
Are dermal fillers the same as Botox®?
Anti Wrinkle Injections and fillers are two types of injectables, both of which are administered via a needle.
The primary distinction between the two is that Botox® is used to minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the underlying muscles, while fillers are employed to fill in deeper wrinkles, hollows, and create volume and shape.
Can I combine Botox® with other injectable treatments?
Yes, most definitely. Anti-Wrinkle Injections address fine lines and wrinkles and beautifully complement other injectable treatments, such as Dermal Fillers and Profhilo, which address different concerns.
Can I have Botox® on the same day as Profhilo and Dermal Fillers?
You can have Anti-Wrinkle injections for your frown and forehead and Profhilo facial treatments on the same appointment.
A two week interval is needed either side of Profhilo Face and Anti-Wrinkle Eye treatments. There are no such restrictions when you are using Profhilo treatments on other areas of the body.
You can have Dermal Fillers and Anti-Wrinkle Injections on the same appointment.
How much does Botox® cost in London?
Anti-wrinkle treatment costs can vary across London. Be careful as not all products are genuine and it is important to find a suitably trained professional. I only use products supplied by reputable pharmacies and I am a doctor, level 7 accredited in Facial Aesthetics to provide these treatments using the latest techniques safely.
