Profhilo Post-Treatment: What not to do after Profhilo

Following your Profhilo treatment, a crucial part of ensuring the most effective and beautiful results lies in knowing what to avoid during the recovery period. While Profhilo is celebrated for its minimal downtime and ease of treatment, certain precautions are still necessary to safeguard your skin’s health and enhance the treatment’s efficacy.

Profhilo Aftercare Timeline

Timeframe What to expect What to do What to avoid
0–6 hours Redness, small bumps at injection points; mild stinging or tenderness. Keep the area clean and untouched, stay upright, follow the clinic’s instructions. Touching, rubbing, makeup, lying face-down.
6–24 hours Bumps and redness gradually soften; mild swelling may appear. Gently cleanse with a mild cleanser; keep skin makeup-free; use a cool compress if needed. Strenuous exercise, alcohol, hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, sunbeds, active skincare.
Days 2–3 Swelling or puffiness may peak, especially in more delicate areas. Continue gentle skincare, stay hydrated, sleep with your head slightly elevated. Vigorous exercise, strong facial treatments, scrubs, retinoids or acids on treated area.
Days 4–7 Swelling and bruising usually settling; skin starts to look more even. Normal daily activities, SPF 30–50 every day, balanced diet and good hydration. New injectables or energy-based treatments in the same area.
After 2 weeks Profhilo has largely settled; skin quality continues to improve gradually. Attend review if arranged, maintain SPF and a gentle, hydrating skincare routine. Impulsive top-ups before assessing the full result with your doctor.

Profhilo Aftercare for Face, Neck and Hands

Profhilo can be used on several areas, and aftercare is very similar across them, with a few small differences:

Face:

  • Expect visible bumps at the injection points for up to 24 hours.
  • Avoid tight face masks, goggles or anything that presses on treated areas for 5 days.

Neck:

  • Try not to wear tight collars or necklaces that rub the treated skin while it is settling.
  • Be extra diligent with sun protection on the neck and chest.

Hands:

  • Avoid heavy rings, tight gloves or repetitive friction (for example long gardening sessions) for a few days.
  • Moisturise regularly and use SPF on the backs of the hands every day.

What is Normal After Profhilo – and When to Contact the Clinic

Most people find Profhilo very straightforward, but some short-term side effects are completely normal:

Common, expected effects (usually settle within a few days):

  • Small “bee-sting” bumps at the injection points
  • Mild redness, warmth or tenderness in the treated area
  • Light swelling or puffiness
  • Mild bruising around the injection points

These usually improve steadily over 2–7 days and resolve completely within about 10 days.

Contact the clinic promptly if you notice:

  • Swelling that gets worse rather than better after the first couple of days
  • A bruise that becomes very painful, raised or unusually large
  • Increasing redness, heat, marked tenderness or any pus at the injection sites
  • Feeling unwell, shivery or feverish

Seek urgent medical advice (NHS 111 or A&E) if you experience:

  • Severe pain that feels out of proportion to any bruising
  • Sudden changes in skin colour (very pale, blotchy or dusky/blue patches near the treated area)
  • Vision changes, severe headache, dizziness or difficulty breathing

These problems are rare, but it’s important to take them seriously and get help quickly if they occur.

Expert Answers to Your Profhilo Aftercare Queries

Navigating the aftercare process post-Profhilo treatment can often bring up a myriad of questions. To provide clarity and peace of mind, we’ve compiled a list of the most commonly asked queries along with expert answers. From managing skincare routines to understanding the nuances of recovery, this section aims to address your concerns in detail. Each response is crafted with care, drawing from professional expertise to ensure you have all the information you need for a seamless and effective aftercare experience.

Let’s explore these questions and uncover the key insights for maintaining your skin’s health and maximising the benefits of your Profhilo treatment.

1. How long does it take to recover from Profhilo?

While the Profhilo treatment is generally well-tolerated, with many finding the mild discomfort manageable (especially with the application of a numbing cream), recovery time is virtually negligible. The entire procedure typically concludes within 30 minutes, allowing you to resume your daily activities immediately afterward without any mandated recovery period.

2. What is the downtime for Profhilo injections?

Post-Profhilo, downtime is usually not a concern. You might notice some redness, small bumps, or bruising at the injection sites. However, these effects are temporary. To ensure the best results, especially if you have upcoming important events, we advise against scheduling any injectable treatments immediately before such occasions.

3. When can I wash my face after Profhilo?

Post-treatment, it’s common to experience minor redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated area. These symptoms are short-lived. We recommend avoiding touching the treated area for 6 hours following your session. After this period, gently cleanse the area with a mild cleanser, and it’s safe to apply sterile makeup if desired.

4. Can I wear makeup after a treatment?

Post-treatment, it’s essential to give your skin the right environment to heal. That’s why I advise waiting for at least 12 hours before applying makeup. The injection sites, though small, need time to heal completely. Makeup products, which often harbor bacteria, could pose a risk of infection if applied too soon after the procedure. Allowing this brief period for your skin to recover ensures a safer and more effective healing process.

5. Can I moisturise after Profhilo?

It’s crucial to wait for 24 hours post-treatment before applying makeup or skin care products to the treated area. This waiting period helps reduce the risk of infection and ensures that the injection sites are not clogged. Once this period has passed or your side effects have subsided, you can resume your regular skincare and makeup routine.

Wait at least 24 hours post-treatment before applying makeup or skin care products to the treated area.

6. Can I use arnica after Profhilo?

To help minimize bruising at the injection sites and provide comfort (especially as some cleansing products can be drying), Arnica cream can be a beneficial addition to your post-treatment care. Additionally, it’s advisable to avoid extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, for about a week following your treatment.

7. How do you sleep after Profhilo treatment?

For optimal post-treatment results, sleep with your head elevated and in a face-up position. You can achieve this by using an extra pillow or two. This sleeping posture helps reduce swelling more effectively and minimizes the likelihood of bruising.

8. Can I sleep on my face after Profhilo?

It’s advisable to avoid lying flat or sleeping on your face for at least 6 hours post-treatment. For the first night, try to maintain a face-up sleeping position. To further minimise any potential for bruising, it’s recommended to refrain from applying makeup for 12 hours and avoid vigorous exercise and alcohol consumption for 24 hours.

Avoid lying flat or sleeping on your face for at least 6 hours post-treatment.

9. Do I need to drink water after Profhilo?

Following your Profhilo treatment, we recommend avoiding touching your face for at least six hours and staying well-hydrated by drinking plenty of water. For at least three hours post-treatment, refrain from lying down or engaging in strenuous activities. Additionally, avoid facials or massaging the treated areas for 24 hours to ensure optimal healing and results.

10. Can I drink coffee after Profhilo?

After your Profhilo treatment, it’s best to steer clear of both alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours. This precaution helps in minimizing potential bruising. If you’re on medications like aspirin or Ibuprofen, which can also increase bruising, please consult your GP before making any changes to your medication routine post-treatment.

After your Profhilo treatment avoid caffeine for at least 24 hours.

11. How long does bruising last after Profhilo?

Typical side effects of Profhilo, such as slight swelling, bruising, redness, and soreness, usually subside within a few days and completely resolve within ten days. If you continue to experience issues beyond ten days, please contact your practitioner for further guidance.

12. Can I ice my face after Profhilo?

You can use a cool compress on the treated area for 10 minutes every half an hour on the day of the treatment, but avoid placing ice directly on the skin. Also, for 24 hours post-treatment, avoid heat-inducing activities like strenuous exercise, spas, saunas, and hot showers, as these can increase the chances of bruising.

13. Can I exercise after Profhilo?

After a Profhilo treatment, it’s recommended to avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours. This helps prevent increased swelling or bruising at the injection sites. Light, gentle activities are generally fine, but it’s important to listen to your body and avoid high-intensity workouts during the initial recovery period.

14. Can I travel by airplane after Profhilo treatment?

It’s advisable to wait at least 48 hours after your Profhilo treatment before flying. Changes in air pressure during a flight can potentially increase swelling or discomfort in the treated areas. Giving your skin this time to settle post-treatment can help avoid any unnecessary complications.

15. Should I avoid certain foods post-Profhilo?

While there are no strict dietary restrictions post-Profhilo, it’s beneficial to eat a balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals to support skin health. Foods that can increase inflammation or bruising, such as high-sodium foods, should be consumed in moderation. Staying hydrated and maintaining a healthy diet can aid in the healing process and enhance your treatment results.

How do I get the best results from Profhilo?

To attain the optimal and long-lasting results from Profhilo, preparation before the treatment is as important as the treatment itself. While it is recommended to have two Profhilo treatments spaced four weeks apart, there are additional steps you can take to ensure your skin is in the best condition to receive the treatment:

  • Hydration: Maintaining well-hydrated skin in the weeks leading up to your treatment can enhance the efficacy of Profhilo. Drinking plenty of water and using hydrating skincare products can prep your skin for the hyaluronic acid boost.
  • Healthy Diet: A balanced diet rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals supports skin health. Foods high in Vitamin C and E, for instance, can aid in collagen production and skin repair.
  • Avoid Certain Substances: In the week leading up to your treatment, try to avoid substances that can increase bruising and swelling, such as alcohol, aspirin, and other blood thinners. It’s also advisable to steer clear of supplements like fish oil and vitamin E during this period.
  • Skin Care Routine: Keep your skin care routine gentle. Avoid using harsh exfoliants or retinoids a few days before your treatment, as these can make your skin more sensitive.
  • Sun Protection: Protect your skin from excessive sun exposure. Sun damage can affect the health of your skin and may impact the results of the treatment.
  • Consultation: A pre-treatment consultation is crucial. This is the time to discuss your skin concerns, treatment expectations, and to get advice on any additional preparation steps tailored to your skin’s needs.
  • Post-Treatment Care: Following the aftercare instructions diligently after each session will also play a significant role in the effectiveness of the treatment. This includes adhering to guidelines on skincare, activities to avoid, and attending follow-up sessions as advised.

The improvements in skin quality, as well as the lifting and tightening effects of Profhilo, develop gradually and subtly over several weeks, culminating in a rejuvenation that not only enhances your skin’s appearance but also its overall health. By preparing adequately and following through with the recommended aftercare, you can significantly boost the outcomes of your Profhilo treatments.
